Swedish Patent and Registration Office
New, living common space for the staff of the Swedish Patent and Registration Office
When the Swedish Patent and Registration Office needed more office space for their staff, they decided to convert the archive in the attic into a nice lunch and meeting venue. Modern lighting and innovative solutions were used to create an inviting environment with artificial lighting.
From a dark archive room to a pleasant environment for the staff
A windowless archive at the Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV) in Stockholm was converted with the help of TALEXX LED lights, DALI x-touchPANEL and a number of different DALI drivers from Tridonic. The goal of the project was to create a pleasant and comfortable environment for the staff to have lunches, coffee breaks, and meet-ups. When the archive in the attic was no longer needed, the decision was made to convert it and install skylights. But, because the building is a listed building of historic value, the agency was denied permission to install skylights. As an alternative, architect Ulla Bladh of Tema Arkitekter & Inredning began working on the lighting design with Jonas Lindahl of Ljusrum in order to create artificial daylight.
A sense of daylight is created by using DALI-controlled fluorescent lamp luminaires fitted with PCA EXCEL one4all digitally dimmable ballasts. The luminaires were fitted with fluorescent tubes with different colour temperatures, ranging from 2,700 K to 6,500 K. The light is then regulated following a set sequence to simulate changes in daylight over the course of a day. The sequence can be easily adjusted or overridden with the x-touchPanel to use other light scenes for special events, such as Saint Lucia Day, Christmas or Easter lighting. The number of DALI addresses is easily reduced by using DALI DSI II signal converter.
As a complement to the dynamic colour temperature, a number of luminaires with fixed lighting and PC Pro ballasts are used. There is also extensive effect lighting with RGB LED modules that light up the columns in the room with white and coloured light. The choice is simply implemented via an additional x-touchPANEL that controls the RGBW coloured light. In addition, there are 12 V halogen recessed luminaires in the ceiling that are digitally dimmable with TE one4all electronic transformers.
Tridonic products were used to create an interesting and attractive lighting system that well meets the ideas and requirements of PRV. The venue has been named “Visionen”, which means The Vision.
