Support to doctor’s office “Wennerström Ljuskontroll AB Health Centre” in India

The Kjell Borneland Foundation, which Wennerström Ljuskontroll previously sponsored in their efforts to erect a medical centre in Nepal and with transports of ambulances to Morocco, is building a school, the Kjell Borneland Academy, in one of India’s most deprived areas. Wennerström Ljuskontroll once again offered a sponsorship contribution, which will be used to erect a building on the school campus which will house a health centre. The centre will have two rooms, one for examinations and the other for medical assistance (emergency room). If the conditions exist, the school building will also include a library and a future computer room.
“Wennerström Ljuskontroll AB Health Centre” in Jaigaon is the first of its kind as it will be the only school in the Jaigaon and Jalpaiguri area which also has a health centre for poor inhabitants (both adult and children). The health centre will provide free examinations of poor children and other poor patients in the area before a decision is reached to move the patient to another hospital in cases of severe injuries. The health centre will also help in cases of minor injuries and illnesses, with students, parents and teachers at the school being offered a free health check-up and treatment of minor wounds, deworming and an eye exam. School children that are found to be malnourished will get extra nutritional supplements. In addition to medical first aid, the health centre will also serve as the heart of the health awareness programme, aimed at spreading knowledge about sanitation and cleanliness to villagers in Jaigaon.

Doctor’s office. Wennerström Ljuskontroll AB Health Centre
A doctor’s office is also being constructed. The new building consists of two floors, with new classrooms on the upper floor. The bottom floor will house a doctor’s office with waiting room for school students, the students’ families, staff, and the villagers who have never before been able to afford to visit a doctor/nurse. All examinations will be free of charge for students and teachers. Other individuals who live near the school can also visit the doctor’s office free of charge. Common injuries and illnesses among the villagers include snake bites (often fatal), malaria, pneumonia, cuts, dehydration, diabetes and other illnesses that require a doctor’s visit. An agreement has been signed with Anandalok Hospital in the town of Siliguri for more complicated illnesses.

Water project
Drilling of fresh water in the school area was completed in autumn 2016. The drilling went to a depth of 200 metres, where the glacier water from the Himalayas in Bhutan flow. The water project was long awaited and gives great pleasure to students, the students’ families and other villagers. More than 200 people will have access to fresh drinking water once the entire water project has been completed. All that remains for the water supply to the school to be complete is an electric pump, pump building and various water pipes to be routed to the school.
The project was made possible by a private donation by Göran and Ewa Wennerström in Strängnäs.
